Non Surgical Gum Therapy

Non Surgical Gum Therapy is an Option in Maple Ontario.

Our dental practice in Maple Ridge now offers non-surgical periodontal therapy. Gum disease is a serious and chronic condition that is caused by bacterial plaque and tartar that accumulates below the gum line. If left untreated, these bacteria will destroy the bone that supports the teeth and result in tooth loss.

Unfortunately, gum infection can be present for many years before being detected by a dentist. As a result, it is essential that regular check-ups are performed – especially if other conditions such as diabetes or heart conditions are present. However, signs such as inflamed, red or painful gums, gums that bleed and unexplained bad breath can all be indications that you are suffering from periodontal disease.

Our practice here in Maple offers a system for early detection, diagnosis, non-surgical treatment and long-term maintenance of the inflammatory stage of gum disease. We also offer early detection of pre- or malignant changes of oral tissue, which can be an early sign of mouth cancer. This includes compiling an individualized treatment plan with our dentist and hygienists that will help reduce infection.

FAQs

1. What are Pockets?

These are classified as the area between the top part of the gum tissue and the bone surrounding the teeth. The area is measured using a small instrument known as a probe. When infection is present, the tissue pulls away from the tooth and bleeds very easily. Measuring the depth of these pockets can provide an indication of how much bone loss has occurred around the teeth.

2. What is Root Planning and Scaling?

This procedure involves removing plaque, tartar and stains from teeth surfaces below and above the gum line. Root planning addresses the removal of tartar below the gum line by detoxifying the surfaces of tooth roots where gum disease sets in. Along with root planning and scaling, medicaments are used to irrigate the pocket areas, enabling gum tissue to reattach to root surfaces once again.

What our Soft Tissue Management® program aims to achieve:

  • Gum tissue that no longer bleeds
